Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?
At the Department of Global Public Health we conduct research, teaching and applied work based on public health science and epidemiology. The research is aimed at analysing health determinants on the population level, and developing and evaluating preventative structural and individualised measures, including legislation and guidelines. The group in which you will work is multidisciplinary and uses social epidemiology, qualitative methods, digital technology as well as health economy and implementation research methods. You will work specifically with research related to digital diagnostic technologies and where the overall aims are to study novel methods that can make medical diagnostics more accurate, efficient and accessible.
The field of medical technology has developed strongly in recent years, especially in areas such as mobile health, medical artificial intelligence and digital diagnostics. As a postdoctoral researcher you are expected to assume a major responsibility within a research project to be initiated related to a novel smartwatch and app for self-monitoring of cardiac and respiratory function after a COVID-19 infection, at the Department of Global Public Health and in collaboration with other departments at Karolinska Institutet (KI). The recipient of the position is expected to coordinate the research project, assist in the application of ethical approval and funding, as well as in the recruitment of other researchers to be affiliated with the project. The task also involves the establishment of multidisciplinary research networks involving other departments at KI and other academic institutions, nationally and internationally, in the field of post-COVID-19 research.
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.
We are looking a researcher in the field of medical technology/diagnostics/digital health who can demonstrate scientific skills in research and development related to medical diagnostics. Applicants must have experience in application for research funding and ethical permits, have excellent skills in scientific writing, and demonstrate good potential to work in a multidisciplinary team. Work related to digital, automated diagnostics and medical technology is considered to be meritorious. Experience of the implementation of novel technologies in various settings (i.e. low-, middle- and high-income countries) and of assessment of novel medical devices are considered an asset.
Applicants are also expected to have experience of international cooperation in research and experience of clinical evaluation of diagnostic methods are considered as a merit.
Knowledge in medicine or clinical research, epidemiology or biostatistics are desirable, but not mandatory. Good communication skills with the ability to present results clearly, work co-operatively as part of a team as well as independently with strong attention to detail are also essential.
Excellent English skills are mandatory, both written and oral and good knowledge of Swedish is a merit.
