Postdoctoral Researcher in epidemiology, focus on sexual and reproductive health

This position is a unique opportunity to conduct research in the research group Global Sexual Health, Department of Global Public Health.

The Department of Global Public Health is an interdisciplinary institution that aims to advance knowledge on how to improve population health at local, national and global level. Research at the department aims to identify the determinants of health, develop and evaluate individual and structural interventions, and provide evidence for guidelines and policy documents. Many of the department's researchers are scientific advisors to authorities and other decision-makers at regional, national and international level. The department has 9 research groups, about 85 research students and about 140 employees.

The work will mostly be based at the Department of Global Public Health at Karolinska Institutet in Solna. The applicant is expected to independently conduct own research but also to assist in existing research projects in global health in low- and middle-income countries. Responsibilities include writing of grant applications, project coordination, project reporting, quantitative data analysis, scientific writing and frequent communication in speech and writing with both national and international partners. Supervision of students at Master and PhD level will also be expected, as well as teaching in global health and sexual and reproductive health. The post-doc will also be an important part of the research group and is expected to actively participate in the work and development of the group. Shorter or longer travel outside of Sweden primarily to Africa will be necessary. This is a fixed-term position during two years.

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

Mandatory requirements include a PhD degree in epidemiology, public health, global health or corresponding academic qualifications. English and Swedish language skills in speaking and writing is a mandatory requirement. Skills in data analysis, biostatistics, epidemiology and be able to independently perform multivariable data analyses are mandatory requirements.

Experience of research in global health and sexual and reproductive health and/or HIV is a desired requirement as well as previous work in low-income countries. Experience in writing publications, grant applications and/or project coordination preferably at international level is a desired requirement.
