Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?
The epidemiological research at the Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM) is focused on advancing knowledge about disease etiology and prognosis with an emphasis on environmental and lifestyle factors, and on methodological development and stringency. Another line of research constitutes the application of causal inference methods to longitudinal observational data and randomized trials. The research is based on the unique resource of Swedish and Nordic nationwide population registers and clinical quality registries as well as cohorts and case-control studies with extensive information from questionnaires and biological samples.
The position is 2 years and will be based in the group CAUSALab at the Unit of Epidemiology, IMM, Karolinska Institutet (KI). The research group is devoted to understanding how to best utilize Swedish health data for causal inference. This includes developing, utilizing, and adapting cutting-edge methodologies, with an interest in how they can be operationalized in the Swedish and Nordic context.
Your mission
The work will include comparative effectiveness research, with an emphasis on causal inference methods for complex longitudinal data from both observational studies and randomized trials. Methods for benchmarking and joint analyses of trials and their emulations will be applied to two motivating use cases on the treatment of acute myocardial infarction. The research will be based on data from Swedish population and health data registers, health care quality registers and registry-based randomized trials. The Postdoctoral researcher will conduct day-to-day project activities, such as writing of protocols and detailed analysis plans, performing data management, conducting analyses, preparing reports on analytical results, presenting findings at project meetings and contribute to drafting of manuscripts. The work will be conducted within the research project entitled “Randomized Trials and Their Observational Emulations – Benchmarks and Joint Analyses”, funded by the Patient-Oriented Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI). The project is a collaboration between the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Boston, USA and Karolinska Institutet. The Postdoctoral fellow will be supervised by Anita Berglund and Anthony Matthews at the CAUSALab IMM, KI and Issa Dahabreh and Miguel Hernán, CAUSALab at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and IMM, KI. The Postdoctoral researcher will be part of a wider group of researchers working primarily within casual inference methods using Swedish register data.
