Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?
Karolinska Institutet, Department of medicin, Huddinge
The research group of Associate Prof. Hareth Nahi at the Department of Medicine, Center for Hematology and Regenerative Medicine is announcing a postdoctoral researcher position at Karolinska Institutet within the research fields of multiple myeloma, cancer biology and gene editing.
The department of Medicine , Huddinge conducts graduate and post-graduate education, as well as research, within a wide range of the medical field, covering all internal medicine specialties, infectious diseases, and dermatology. The department consists of seven units with nearly 60 research groups, including three research centers. Our ambition is to be the leading department for medical research and education.
Our working environment
Nahi Lab is a world-leading cross disciplinary team investigating multiple myeloma to dissect the pathways and chromosomal aberrations involved in pathogenesis of disease. Our group has excelled in epidemiology and has performed large clinical trials. We have a strong track record, with its research being funded by various national Swedish and international collaborative projects. We provide a dynamic and cutting-edge research environment encompassing basic to clinical research.
Description of the project
The research project will be pre-clinical translational research in cancer biology focusing on the validation of resistance mechanism of multiple myeloma. The aim of this project is to elucidate the impact of different pathways and genes on progression of mutiple myeloma.
The postdoc researcher will use his or her knowledge and experience in cancer cell biology to work on in vitro validation aspects of a therapeutic gene editing project. This includes culture and differentiation of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and carrying out gene editing experiments to validate target hypotheses.
Key entry requirements and qualifications
We are looking for a highly motivated, structured and scientifically driven researcher with a recent Ph.D. degree (2018 or later) in cancer cell biology, immune biology or equivalent. Experience of multiple myeloma and cellular immunology research will be considered an advantage. Excellent proficiency in English, both oral and written is required. Applicants should have publications in recognized peer reviewed journals.
The position requires extensive experience in genome editing using CRISPR, cell culturing, multiparameter flow cytometry, cell sorting, working with pluripotent stem cell and in vivo model systems. Experience of NGS library prep, cytotoxic drugs, expertise with liquid handling automation technologies and experience in setting up cell based pharmacological assays are desirable. In addition, we believe that the successful candidate will have a background in myeloma/cancer cell biology and immunology.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to present results clearly, work co-operatively as part of a team as well as independently, with strong attention to detail are also essential.
We will accord special weight to academic skills, particularly demonstrated excellence in research. Personal suitability is of great importance when evaluating the applicants.
We are looking for a researcher who has a strong work ethic, passion for solving difficult questions and challenges with the ability to design, plan, perform, and interpret original experiments in an independent and innovative environment. The candidates should have high integrity and be open to the multicultural setting they are going to be working in.
