Postdoctoral Researcher in Bioinformatics of Inflammatory Diseases

The Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM) is a department at Karolinska Institutet and an interdisciplinary research institution within the broad field of environmental medicine. IMM conducts cutting edge research within the areas of environmental and occupational medicine, toxicology, physiology, epidemiology, and biostatistics with the aim to clarify how environmental and lifestyle factors affect our health and which role genes have. IMM also serves as a scientific advisor to public authorities within the area of environmental medicine and IMM scientists participate in national and international expert groups.


Your mission

The position will include work on bioinformatics, machine learning of transcriptome data within a European project funded by the Innovative Medicines Initiative Joint Undertaking on immune mediated diseases of which Karolinska Institutet is a partner under the coordination of Prof Marta E. Alarcón-Riquelme and with collaboration from the pharmaceutical industry as in-kind contributors. The project has as aim to identify the molecular profiles of response and non-response to various treatments using clinical trial data, as well as data from observational and interventional studies ongoing in the project. Among the diseases involved are the inflammatory bowel diseases, systemic lupus erythematosus and asthma. The position is time limited for one year. 


Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

Knowledge on the analysis and handling of transcriptome data is an important advantage and in particular the use of such data in immune-mediated, inflammatory or autoimmune diseases. Experience with machine learning is looked for. Experience with scRNASeq data would be greatly valued. Deconvolution of cellular data as well as programing and script writing are also valued.
