Updated: 7 months ago
Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

The Department of Medicine, Huddinge consists of several units that are separated into different research groups. The core activities of the department are research, doctoral education and undergraduate education for medical and biomedical students.

The Unit of Infectious Diseases is an active and internationally successful research unit. Here clinical, experimental and epidemiological research is conducted in close collaboration with the Division of Clinical Microbiology, KI, and the Infectious Disease clinic at the Karolinska University Hospital. The unit has a leading role in several national and international consortia and networks.

A postdoctoral research fellow position is available in the research group of Professor Anders Sönnerborg. His research group consists presently of one senior researcher, one assistant professor, one post-doc, six PhD-students and a bioinformatican. His research has a strong focus on translational projects and a clinical research group is closely associated with the laboratory. The main research area is chronic viral infections with special focus on HIV. For the post-doctoral research fellow position, the work will be focused on finding new strategies for the cure of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection using multidisciplinary approach.

The project is a multi-approach translational research with focus on experimental and translational studies on HIV cure. The candidate is expected to work with infectious patient material and perform basic molecular biological techniques like qPCR, molecular cloning and gene manipulation, expression along with basic cell culture techniques. The candidate has to run the cutting edge assays like RNAflow. RNAscope. Therefore strong knowledge in FACS and microscopy is essential. The candidate is also expected to liase with multidisciplinary fileds including bio-engineering to development of newer high through-put techniques and clinical science.

Entry requirements
A person is eligible for a position as Postdoctoral Researcher if he or she has obtained a PhD no more than seven years before the last date of employment as postdoc. The term can be extended under special circumstances.

Desired skills and experience
We seek a highly motivated candidate with a demonstrated record of scientific excellence. The applicant must hold a PhD in Molecular Biology/Biomedical Sciences or equivalent.

The candidate should also have

  • Good understanding of molecular biology including next generation sequencing, genetics, gene manipulation, plasmid construction and manipulation and real-time PCR.
  • Experience in handling infectious material including viruses (biosafety level 2 and 3), use of the multi-colour flow cytometry and microscopy is essential.
  • Understanding of replication and latency of HIV and other retroviruses is desired.
  • Demonstration of scientific expertise and excellence by means of authorship (ideally first author) in peer-reviewed publications in internationally recognized scientific journals.

The candidate should be proficient in English, both spoken and written.

Personal skills
The researchers involved in this study have extensive experience in molecular biology, clinical biochemistry, clinical science and/or immunology, therefore the candidate should be curios, enthusiatic, initiative, with a strong work ethic, good writing skills, and the ability to drive a project forward.

We welcome a creative, hardworking and enthusiastic team-player to our group. The candidate is expected to take part in experimental design, experimentation, presentations, and preparation of publications.
