The Department of Mathematics conducts research and education at undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels within mathematics, applied mathematics and statistics. The department has about 140 employees. The number of annual students at the undergraduate and graduate level is about 770. The department has three research programs: analysis and probability, algebra and geometry, and applied mathematics and statistics. Duties
Conduct research in mathematics, applied mathematics or statistics. Teaching and administration can also be included, no more than 20 percent.

Requirements
PhD degree in mathematics or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree in mathematics. The degree needs to be obtained by the time of the decision of employment. Those who have obtained a PhD degree three years prior to the application deadline are primarily considered for the employment. The starting point of the three-year frame period is the application deadline. Due to special circumstances, the degree may have been obtained earlier. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.

Documented ability to conduct excellent research in mathematics within the fields of symplectic and contact topology, mathematical physics or related subjects. Of particular interest is research connected to modern symplectic invariants based on pseudoholomorphic curves, such as the Fukaya category, Symplectic Field Theory, Gromov-Witten invariants, skein and Chern-Simons theory, and related topics.

Ability to teach in Swedish or English is a requirement as well as proficiency in spoken and written English.

About the employment
The employment is a temporary position of two years according to central collective agreement.  Scope of employment 100 %. Starting date 1 September 2023 or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala.
