Are you interested in working in one of the world's fastest growing technology areas? We are recruiting a driven postdoctoral researcher to join the Molecular Precision Medicine research group at the Department of Medical Sciences, located at the Uppsala Biomedical Center (BMC). The research group focuses on various diseases using large-scale genetic methods (current projects can be found on our website: https://www.medsci.uu.se/research/mpm/research-projects/ ). Through close collaboration with clinical researchers at Uppsala University Hospital and SLU, our research group has access to unique sample collections and clinical patient information. A close collaboration with the National Genomics Infrastructure (NGI) at the Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab), gives the research group seamless access to next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology (https://ngisweden.scilifelab.se/ ).
The Molecular Precision Medicine group is now looking for a postdoctoral fellow for the development and implementation of new DNA/RNA/protein sequence analyses in clinical research studies. The position is a unique and exciting opportunity for those who want to work in advanced technology development for single-cell genomics, proteomics, and 'liquid biopsy' applications with state-of-the-art equipment in an active research environment linked to SciLifeLab's technology platform.
The main task of the postdoctoral research project is to develop and implement sequencing technologies in research projects where clinical patient samples are analyzed. The work may include analysis of single cells, development of methods for analysis of cell-free DNA/RNA in so-called 'liquid biopsies', as well as implementation of large-scale proteomics analyses. There is a good opportunity to propose and pursue the candidate’s own ideas, as long as they fit within the group's general research program.
The duties also include scientific writing and presenting results from research projects at scientific conferences and meetings. A successful candidate is expected to perform experimental laboratory work and will be given the opportunity to develop skills in bioinformatic analyses. There will be ample opportunities for skill development by participating in courses and via national and international research collaborations as well as within SciLifeLab's Genomics Platform.
PhD degree in in genetics, genomics, molecular medicine, molecular biology, cell biology or another related field or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree. The PhD degree must be obtained by the time of the employment decision. Only those who have obtained a PhD degree within three years of the postdoctoral position application deadline will be considered. Due to special circumstances, the PhD degree may have been obtained earlier. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.
Previous experience with bioinformatics is not a requirement, but previous experience with large-scale data analyzes is merited. We are primarily looking for a creative person who has very good oral and written skills in English, is responsible, and has the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and is comfortable working both independently and in a group. Great importance will be placed on personal qualities, such as positive attitude and good collaborative skills.
Specific requirements for the position are:
- Broad interest in genomics technology
- Practical experience working with advanced molecular biology techniques
- Experience working with large-scale DNA or RNA sequencing
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Good oral and written skills in English
In addition to the qualification requirements listed above, we would like to see previous experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Method and/or protocol development
- Antibody- and/or mass spectrometry-based proteomics
- Laboratory experience with cell culture
- Research in the fields of cancer, blood or autoimmune diseases
- Bioinformatic analysis of NGS data
- Programming in R or python
- Handling large datasets in a LINUX/UNIX environment
About the employment
