Uppsala University is a comprehensive research-intensive university with a strong international standing. Our ultimate goal is to conduct education and research of the highest quality and relevance to make a long-term difference in society. Our most important assets are all the individuals whose curiosity and dedication make Uppsala University one of Sweden’s most exciting workplaces. Uppsala University has over 45,000 students, more than 7,000 employees and a turnover of around SEK 7 billion.

The Department of Information Technology has approximately 350 employees and 4000 students per year and provides education and research of the highest international quality in Computer Science and its sub-disciplines. The strong focus on research impacts provides an excellent foundation for undergraduate education at the department. The department also hosts several interdisciplinary research groups, and supports initiatives in the areas of equal opportunities and equality. Research is organized in five divisions. For more information, see http://www.it.uu.se .

The research at the Division of Visual Information and Interaction (Vi2) is a unique combination of expertise in computerised image analysis and human-computer interaction. The human-computer interaction part of Vi2 is focused towards theory and method development, and, towards analysis, design, evaluation as well as applications of interaction and communication aspects of the interplay between humans and technology.

Human-computer interaction encompasses the analyses, descriptions and interpretations of human actors’ habits and behaviours in socio-technical systems. The object is to extract information about the human contribution’s unique role and properties in different judgement- and problem solving situations. The aim is then to use this information in order to inform development projects within the transportation sector, where use of new technical functions results in a quest for how the role of the human contribution can be included in the design of future technical platforms.

The research work takes place in a multidisciplinary team with a focus on the human role in technological systems. The team is based at the Department of Visual Information and Interaction at the Department of Information Technology at Uppsala University and with an international connection.
