Uppsala University is a comprehensive research-intensive university with a strong international standing. Our ultimate goal is to conduct education and research of the highest quality and relevance to make a long-term difference in society. Our most important assets are all the individuals whose curiosity and dedication make Uppsala University one of Sweden’s most exciting workplaces. Uppsala University has over 54,000 students, more than 7,500 employees and a turnover of around SEK 8 billion.

The research conducted at the Department of Physics and Astronomy encompasses a wide range of physics topics, distributed over ten divisions. The department is located in the Ångström laboratory and employs nearly 400 people, 125 of whom are doctoral students. It offers a broad physics curriculum to undergraduate and graduate students, participation in nationally and internationally leading projects for researchers, and opportunities for partnership with industry and various outreach activities.

Duties
At IFA, the Department of X-ray Physics, research is conducted on functional materials using XUV and advanced X-ray-based spectroscopy. The current position is opened up for operations in nanoparticle technology. The materials of interest are so-called upside down converting nanoparticles of rare earth metals and semiconductors with a focus on exploring the capture of infrared and ultraviolet light to activate solar cells in window glass in buildings. The activity will complement existing research in the areas of nanotechnology, solar cells and energy materials carried out at the department. The research is part of the project "IR functionalized solar cells" with support from the Swedish Energy Agency (STEM 52495-1).

Requirements
PhD degree in physics or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree in physics. The degree needs to be obtained by the time of the decision of employment. Those who have obtained a PhD degree three years prior to the application deadline are primarily considered for the employment. The starting point of the three-year frame period is the application deadline. Due to special circumstances, the degree may have been obtained earlier. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.

Additional qualifications
Documented experience of nanostructure manufacturing and experimental research in materials physics is important. Particular emphasis will be placed on research in nanosystems, molecular systems and the synthesis of nanoparticles. Good skills in state-of-the-art nanofabrication techniques such as high-resolution e-beam lithography, optical lithography, thin film production and other cleanroom-based techniques, low temperature low-noise-high-precision instrumentation, controlled core-shell synthesis and nanophysics will also be attached. weight at when the application is assessed. Experience of leading research groups, including doctoral students and postdocs, can be important. Documented ability to obtain external financing is considered meritorious. Experience of combining basic research with applied research is also an advantage.
