The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (MEB) is among the largest departments of epidemiology in Europe with special focus on increasing our knowledge of the aetiology of different diseases. Our department consists of researchers, doctoral students, biostatisticians, data collectors and database administrators as well as administrative personnel, in total some 250 staff. Your mission

The advent of high-throughput technologies has produced an avalanche of omics data and revolutionized medical research. Our research aims at developing and applying computational and statistical methodologies for analyses of multi-omics data from complex human diseases. The successful postdoctoral candidate will collaborate closely with our team members and external collaborators to analyze different omics-data for discoveries of biomarkers in cancers and rare diseases using statistical methodologies and bioinformatics tools. The candidate will be a part of the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (MEB), which is among the largest departments of epidemiology in Europe. The candidate will work with Dr. Trung Nghia Vu and Professor Yudi Pawitan on the research projects.

This position is a fixed-term employment of 2 years, with the possibility of extension.



Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor, a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

The postdoctoral candidate is required to have a solid background in both biostatistics and bioinformatics. The candidate should have training in bioinformatics, computer science, statistics, computational biology or similar subjects during their PhD.  The position requires experience with analysis of both next-generation sequencing data, especially establishing bioinformatics analysis pipeline for RNA-sequencing data and down-stream analysis of the gene-expression data. Experience in single-cell RNA-sequencing analysis is a merit. Experience with programming using R is required and other programming languages such as C/C++, Python will be an advantage. Regarding personal characteristics, the candidate should be well-informed and have curiosity concerning issues of health, biology and statistical problems; thoroughness in dealing with research data; interest and persistence in learning new tasks; ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary group. Fluency in oral and written English is required.
