The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology is organized into seven research programmes which all focus on different areas of cell and molecular biology: Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, Microbiology and Immunology, Molecular Biology, Molecular Biophysics, Molecular Evolution, Molecular Systems Biology and Structural Biology. The scientific basis of what we do lies in biology, but our research overlaps with other areas such as medicine, computer science, mathematics, chemistry, engineering sciences and physics. The research project is focused on gene expression analysis of heart tissue related to different types of heart failure. Bioinformatics analysis of differently expressed genes including functional characterisations and regulation of metabolic networks. In addition, we will analyse biomarkers and proteomics data. Our research group is also looking at new methods for bioinformatics characterisation and subdivision of large protein families.

PhD degree in bioinformatics, computational biology or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree in these or closely related subjects. The degree needs to be obtained by the time of the decision of employment. Those who have obtained a PhD degree three years prior to the application deadline are primarily considered for the employment. The starting point of the three-year frame period is the application deadline. Due to special circumstances, the degree may have been obtained earlier. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.

Previous long-term experience of working with NGS data, RNAseq data, differential expression, network analyses and other bioinformatics and biostatistics analyses. Good experience of Linux command-line environment (*sh), and a scripting language such as Python or Perl is necessary. Good experience of R and Bioconductor is also necessary. The applicant must have a very good ability to work independently as well as in a group. Excellent written and oral knowledge of English is required, as the work takes place in an international environment.

About the employment
The employment is a temporary position of 2 years according to central collective agreement. Scope of employment 100 %. Starting date as soon as possible or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala
