The Centre for Baltic and East European Studies (CBEES) is tasked with stimulating and developing Södertörn University’s multidisciplinary research and doctoral (third-cycle) education with a focus on the Baltic Sea region and Eastern Europe. CBEES’ objective is to increase the national and international impact of Baltic and Eastern European research from Södertörn University , as well as achieving recognition of the university’s status as a knowledge hub. CBEES is a point of contact, not just within the university but also for other research environments and the surrounding community. CBEES organises regular seminars, international conferences and summer schools, lectures, workshops, doctoral student meetings and courses and publishes the Baltic Worlds journal. The research centre has professors, visiting researchers, postdocs, doctoral students and research leaders. The working language at CBEES is English.


Job description

The duties of a postdoctoral research fellow primarily include research. They may also include the development of research activities and participation in the academic community through work as a reviewer, external expert or lecturer. Some teaching may be included in these duties but at no more than 20 per cent of the total level of employment. Administrative duties may also be included in the position (such as organising conferences or workshops).

We are particularly looking for applicants who specialise in “water/marine issues”, which could mean the environment and sustainability in the Baltic Sea region, maritime archaeology, climate change or transportation issues in the Baltic Sea region.


Qualifications

An individual is qualified to apply for a position as a postdoctoral research fellow if he/she has a doctoral degree in a relevant research area, in particular with focus on environment and sustainability in the Baltic Sea region, maritime archaeology, climate change or transportation issues in the Baltic Sea region, or has a qualification that is equivalent to a doctoral degree in these areas. This requirement must be fulfilled at the time the employment decision is made.

Primary consideration will be given to those who have attained the above qualifications within three years prior to the deadline for application for employment as a postdoctoral research fellow. Applicants who have a doctoral degree, or an equivalent qualification, from an earlier date may be considered if there are exceptional circumstances. Exceptional circumstances are leave due to ill health, parental leave, positions of trust in trade union organisations, service in the Swedish armed forces, or other similar circumstances. Applicants must also have the required personal skills to do the job well and to represent the university in a beneficial way.

Södertörn University applies the criteria below for research expertise in the coming assessment of applicants. If research expertise is demonstrated in other ways than that described below, an equivalent assessment will be made of such expertise.

Research expertise is demonstrated by the doctoral thesis and other scholarly publications in the relevant subject area, and experience of participation in research projects.

Employment
