Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top 100 universities. The University has 40 000 students and 7 400 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.
The Faculty of Science conducts research and education within Biology, Astronomy, Physics, Geosciences, Chemistry, Mathematics and Environmental Sciences. The Faculty is organized into nine departments, gathered in the northern campus area. The Faculty has approximately 1500 students, 330 PhD students and 700 employees.
The activities of the Department of Astronomy and Theoretical Physics are centred around three main areas: Astronomy and Astrophysics; Theoretical Particle Physics; and Computational Biology and Biological Physics. Our research is driven by our curiosity to understand reality, from the smallest of particles to the largest astronomical structures, as well as the structure of Life itself. We have a strong international position in all three areas, and we are actively working on further strengthening our international profile.
The Department of Astronomy and Theoretical Physics invites applicants to a Postdoctoral fellow position in Theoretical Astrophysics.
Theoretical astrophysics at Lund Observatory encompasses planet formation and dynamics, galaxy formation, galactic dynamics and evolution, star formation and dynamics, high-energy astrophysics, and binary stellar evolution. We have strong observational links, including involvement in the ESA missions Gaia, CHEOPS, PLATO, 4MOST and LISA.
We are seeking a postdoc having a background within numerical models of galaxy formation and evolution or star formation.
The position is for two years, with funding secured for a potential third year (2+1 years). The position is available from January 2019, but starting date as late as August 2019 is possible.
Description of work
The postdoc will work in collaboration with the galaxy theory group in Lund, and is also encouraged to define their own research.
Postdoctoral positions are research-focused appointments intended as the first stage of a science career. The applicants should, at the start of the contract, hold a PhD in astronomy, astrophysics or a related field. The PhD should have been obtained within three years prior to the deadline for the application.
The application should include a CV, publication list, and a statement of research interests. The statement of research interests should include your own research to be carried out in Lund as well as an indication of specific interests related to galaxy formation, galaxy evolution or star formation. Names and contact information of three persons willing to give references should be supplied.
