Updated: about 2 years ago
Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

at the Department of Environmental Science . Closing date: 25 February 2022.

The Department of Environmental Science is one of the largest departments at the Faculty of Science at Stockholm University. The department is divided into four units with more than 170 researchers, teachers, doctoral students and technical/administrative staff from over 30 countries. Research and teaching focuses on chemical contaminants, atmospheric science, biogeochemistry and (eco)toxicology. As an employee at the Department of Environmental Science you will be part of a dynamic environment with work being done in leading research areas and with a strong international profile.

Project description
The main goal of the project in which you will be involved is to facilitate and analyze how multi-stakeholder groups, mainly businesses, collaborate to produce climate-responsible solutions, including how responsibility is shared and assessed among these groups, barriers and enablers, and power dynamics. The project also seeks to assist the definition and implementation of metrics that can facilitate climate-responsible solutions among the groups. The research and goals will be achieved through convening and observing the multi-stakeholder groups at events, building on the Climate Arena initiative of the Bolin Centre for Climate Research. The research will be enriched by analyzing and learning from participants and results from more than 100 case studies of multi-stakeholder interactions carried out by the Thriving Earth Exchange .

The position will be placed at the Department of Environmental Science at Stockholm University. The candidate will work with a team of researchers from the Bolin Centre for Climate Research at SU, from the Stockholm Environment Institute, the Institute for Thematic Studies at Linköping University, and the Swedish NGO Klimatriksdagen. Since the Climate Arena activities involve primarily Swedish participants, a facility with both Swedish and English is necessary.

Main responsibilities
The successful candidate will demonstrate interest in exploring new, relevant techniques and methodologies. Tasks include planning the multi-stakeholder workshops and observing, analyzing and interpreting the interactions in them and in the Thriving Earth Exchange case studies, to establish metrics, measures, and interactions that foster positive (and negative) sustainability outcomes.

Qualification requirements
Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.

Assessment criteria
The degree should have been completed no more than three years before the time when the employment decision is made. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances. Special reasons refer to sick leave, parental leave, elected positions in trade unions, service in the total defense, or other similar circumstances as well as clinical attachment or service/assignments relevant to the subject area.

In the appointment process, special attention will be given to transdisciplinary research skills and to experience working in multi-stakeholder environments. We are seeking a recent PhD who is curious about how transdisciplinary processes work and how they can be improved to help society move towards a just, flourishing and sustainable future. Given the breadth of the project, we are seeking someone with a solid research background in a field of relevance to climate responsibility.

Terms of employment
The position involves full-time employment for a minimum of two years and a maximum of three years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date 2022-03-15 or as per agreement.
