The Department of Political Science is a dynamic and strong education- and research department at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Stockholm University. The Department aims to be nationally leading and internationally prominent within its field of research and education. The Department announces one vacant position as 3 year postdoctoral fellow with an orientation towards environmental politics and sustainable development.

Project description
The postdocoral position will be part of a research program funded by the Swedish Research Council for Sustainable Development (Formas): Causes and Consequences of Environmental Protests: The Global Environmental Contestation and Civic Mobilization Observatory (GECCO) . The overarching aim of the project is to examine if, how and when environmental problems lead to social mobilization and protests events. To answer these research questions, the project will build a global database of environmental protests events.

Main responsibilities
The main responsibility for the postdoctoral fellow is to conduct research within the research program in collaboration with other projects participants, dissemination of results through scholarly journals and conferences, as well as project coordination. The position involves 20 percent teaching.

Qualification requirements
Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.

Assessment criteria
The degree must have been completed at latest before the employment decision is made, but no more than three years before the closing date. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances. Special reasons refer to sick leave, parental leave, elected positions in trade unions, service in the total defense, or other similar circumstances as well as clinical attachment or service/assignments relevant to the subject area.

We seek candidates with a PhD in Political Science or related disciplines with a background in environmental politics, international relations, comparative politics and/or policy studies.. We are particularly interested in candidates with quantitative methods background. Additional merits include capacity to work in an international cross-disciplinary team of researchers and to communicate research findings to wider audiences beyond academia. The candidate must have excellent skills in academic written English. The postdoc is expected to contribute several workpackages in line with the program’s aim and research questions and research tasks will be conducted in dialogue with the PI and other consortium members.

Terms of employment
The position involves full-time employment for a minimum of two years and a maximum of three years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date as per agreement.
