The Department of Physics is one of the biggest departments within the Faculty of Science with about 250 employees and 2,000 students. The XSoLaS group with PI:s Anders Nilsson, Lars G.M. Pettersson, Foivos Perakis, and Sergey Koroidov is organized within the Division of Chemical Physics and focuses on studies of water, solutions and heterogeneous catalysis using mainly X-ray probes and theoretical simulation techniques

Project description
We seek a postdoctoral Fellow to work on development and implementation of efficient approaches to simultaneous real-time wave function propagation of both protons and electrons in ab initio simulations of liquid water within a TD-ADFT framework. The target is to perform fully quantum, non-Born-Oppenheimer large-scale simulations of water including also the nuclear spin-coupling between the protons in the molecules. The project is funded through an ERC Advanced Grant (GAS-WAT) and focuses on determining the character and effects of structural fluctuations in liquid water. From both experiment and theory a two-state picture of water is emerging with fluctuations between high- (HDL) and low-density (LDL) local structures at ambient conditions. To what extent the nuclear spin-coupling contributes to this is unknown.

Main responsibilities
The position is a research position where the candidate is expected to contribute significantly to developing and applying techniques as stated above.

Qualification requirements
Postdoctoral Fellow positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a degree equivalent to a Swedish doctoral degree.

Assessment criteria
The degree must have been completed at latest before the employment decision is made, but no more than three years before the closing date. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances. Special reasons refer to sick leave, parental leave, elected positions in trade unions, service in the total defense, or other similar circumstances as well as clinical attachment or service/assignments relevant to the subject area.

In the appointment process, special attention will be given to scientific programming and methods development skills, as well as experience from large-scale simulation techniques.

Terms of employment
The position involves full-time employment for a minimum of two years and a maximum of three years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date 2023-02-01 or as per agreement.
