Offer Description
at the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics . Closing date: 11 February 2024.
The Department is mainly located with the other Departments of Chemistry and Life Sciences in the Arrhenius Laboratories for Natural Sciences, which are situated in the northern part of the University Campus at Frescati. Some 300 people of which about 70 are PhD students work at the Department, engaged in internationally highly recognized research covering a broad range of subjects.
Project description
The international project BRAIN HEALTH, funded by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), aims to integrate cell models of glia cell-mediated neurotoxicity during brain development. The current position in the project is mainly theoretical and data driven. It includes work to identify knowledge gaps about how glial cells during the fetal development are affected by pesticides found in food. The project aims to develop and refine so-called Adverse outcome pathways, that are used for risk assessment of developmental neurotoxicity.
Main responsibilities
The position involves research within the BRAIN HEALTH project as well as some supervision of project students. The duties also include interaction with other project members, presenting the progress of the project and compiling results in reports and menuscripts. Participation in general group activities and certain responsibilities are also included in the employment.
Qualification requirements
Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.
Assessment criteria
The degree must have been completed at latest before the employment decision is made, but no more than three years before the closing date. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances. Special reasons refer to sick leave, parental leave, elected positions in trade unions, service in the total defense, or other similar circumstances as well as clinical attachment or service/assignments relevant to the subject area.
In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research skill. A suitable PhD can be in toxicology, neurochemistry, neurobiology, biochemistry, molecular biology or equivalent. Applicants must have documented experience of in vitro toxicology and knowledge of risk assessment procedures as well as of the development of the brain at a cellular and molecular level. Candidates must have experience of independent work within neurotoxicological subject areas and be well versed in the OECD concept "Adverse outcome pathways", used for toxicological risk assessment.
Knowledge of systematic literature search and handling of the programming language "R" are meriting. Very good skills in spoken and written English, ability to give research presentations and writing scientific articles are requirements for the position.
The person we are looking for takes own initiatives, is a team player and a problem solver. We emphasize that, beside the quailification requirements, personal suitability for the project and the team has a very large impact on the decision of the candidate to be hired for the position.
Terms of employment
The position involves full-time employment for a minimum of two years and a maximum of three years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date as per agreement.
