Project description
The Postdoc position is available in the laboratory headed by Associate Professor Kristina Jonas. The Jonas lab is a dynamic and international research team investigating the molecular mechanisms that allow bacteria to adjust their growth rate and mode of proliferation in response to changing environmental conditions. This specific project aims at understanding how bacterial growth and cell cycle progression are affected by nutrient starvation and genotoxic stress conditions. The project will make use of Caulobacter crescentus, a powerful model for bacterial cell cycle studies. In addition, some of the work will be transferred to selected bacterial pathogens to explore how cell cycle regulation under stress contributes to pathogenicity. Multidisciplinary approaches, including genetics, biochemistry as well as state-of-the-art imaging techniques and high-throughput sequencing approaches will be used. Please visit www.jonaslab.org for further information about the research group.

Main responsibilities
We look for an ambitious and goal-oriented postdoctoral researcher to join the group. The primary responsibility is to carry out research within the area of bacterial cell cycle regulation and stress responses.

Qualification requirements
Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.

Assessment criteria
The degree must have been completed at latest before the employment decision is made, but no more than three years before the closing date. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances. Special reasons refer to sick leave, parental leave, elected positions in trade unions, service in the total defense, or other similar circumstances as well as clinical attachment or service/assignments relevant to the subject area.

In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research skills. The assessment of research skills will focus primarily on merits within the subject area of the position. Candidates are expected to have a strong background in microbiology, genetics and cell biology. Experience in studying bacterial cell division and stress responses on a molecular level is highly beneficial. Excellent English skills are a requirement.

Terms of employment
The position involves full-time employment for a minimum of two years and a maximum of three years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date 2023-02-01 or as per agreement.
