The Department of Astronomy at Stockholm University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow in extragalactic astronomy in the group of Dr. Adamo. The Department of Astronomy has around 80 employees. The main research areas are Galaxies, Supernovae, Computational astrophysics, Solar physics, and Planets and Stars. Stockholm University has access to a range of facilities including ESO and ESA membership. 

Project description
The project is focused on JWST NIRSpec observations of embedded star clusters in the local spiral galaxy NGC628 (program ID 3503). The goal is to map and study the physical properties of HII and photo-dissociation regions, including the PAH 3.3 micron band, and warm H2. The project is part of the FEAST project and includes access to several NIRCam and ancillary data. 

Main responsibilities
The postdoctoral Fellow will lead the spectral analysis and publish the results. Expertise in spectroscopy and knowledge of model grids of dust, PAH, and NIR ionised gas emission will be fundamental for the success of the project.

Qualification requirements
Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.

Assessment criteria
The degree must have been completed at latest before the employment decision is made, but no more than three years before the closing date. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances. Special reasons refer to sick leave, parental leave, elected positions in trade unions, service in the total defense, or other similar circumstances as well as clinical attachment or service/assignments relevant to the subject area.

In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research skills. Expertise in NIR and MIR spectroscopy will be prioritised in the selection of the candidate.

Terms of employment
The position involves full-time employment for a minimum of two years and a maximum of three years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date 2024-09-01 or as per agreement.
