Ref. No. SU FV-2434-22

at the Department of Computer and Systems Sciences . Closing date: 15 August 2022.

Department of Computer and Systems Sciences (DSV) is one of the oldest IT departments in Sweden and the largest department at Stockholm University with around 6 000 students. The discipline of computer and systems sciences bridges the gap between technology and the humanities, social sciences, and behavioral sciences. The use and design of IT is put in context in relation to people, organizations, and society. DSV offers a stimulating research environment in an international setting.

Project description
The postdoctoral position is situated in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), with a focus on children’s perspective of the environment and digitalization. The successful candidate will work with Associate Professor Airi Lampinen at Stockholm University as well as in close collaboration with Associate Professor Meike Schalk at KTH Royal Institute of Technology.

The project centers on new roles of digitalization to care for multi-species relations within a damaged environment. In particular, the project is oriented towards children in their development of values and ethics. In this project, we will draw upon a feminist ethics of care and more-than-human theories of collaborative survival. The research activities will be situated within the field of interaction design and include workshops, concept-development, prototyping, and feedback-sessions.

The position involves research-through design, development of theoretical understandings, and eventual prototyping. The overall goal is to develop better understandings of children’s perspective of the environment and the roles of digitalization in them.

Main responsibilities
We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow with a background in Human–Computer Interaction and/or Interaction Design with experience in research-through-design methods, including first-person methods, along with competence in pursuing empirical and designerly research in intimate and sensitive settings.

The research will be interdisciplinary in nature and it will draw upon links between Human–Computer Interaction (HCI), architecture, and relevant social sciences. The main responsibilities of the postdoctoral fellow will include both empirical and design work related to children’s perspective of the environment and digitalization.

This project is situated in a multidisciplinary HCI research group with extensive international collaborations. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to present their work in international venues and journals, and to collaborate with colleagues both at Stockholm University and KTH.
