The Stockholm Resilience Centre (SRC) is a leading international centre in sustainability science for biosphere stewardship, at the Stockholm University. The SRC currently employs around 135 members of staff. It was founded in 2007 and is a joint initiative between Stockholm University and the Beijer Institute of Ecological Economics at The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.

Project description
We are hiring a Post Doctoral Research Fellow in the field of healthy and sustainable diets, with a focus on food systems justice. The candidate will work with the international EAT-Lancet 2.0 Commission (herein “the Commission”) and conduct reviews of how to ensure healthy diets for all, within planetary and social justice boundaries. The interdisciplinary commission consists of 25 Commissioners from 19 countries, with backgrounds in e.g. public health, agriculture and food systems, political science, behaviour change, food justice and environmental sustainability. The Commission has a greater focus on justice and diversity of regional and local diets in comparison with EAT-Lancet published in 2019. At least five Post Docs and Early Career Scientists will be hired of which one will based at SRC and/or related institutions leading the work on justice and just transformation.

Main responsibilities
The overall scope of the Commission is to understand how to feed 10 billion people a healthy diet, within planetary boundaries, in ways that are affordable and accessible for all. The main responsibilities of this post doc position will be to work with the justice working group of the Commission, and support Commissioners with reviews and analyses of different justice dimensions within food systems activities and outcomes, which include elements of quantitative analyses. The analyses will be global in scope, but focus on diversity of pathways in different geographic regions and for different socio-economic groups compatible with global outcomes of healthy, sustainable, and equitable food systems.

The candidate is expected to contribute to the core EAT-Lancet 2.0 publication, but will also have the opportunity to conduct standalone scientific papers in close collaboration with other researchers in the Commission. The candidate will also be given opportunities to engage with policy and business communities at the national and international level and will be provided training and mentorship on effective science communication.

The candidate will be employed at SRC, at Stockholm University, but will work with researchers across the globe, with some flexibility in terms of location depending on the tasks being undertaken and the collaboration with other commissioners. The main supervisors will be Prof. Line Gordon (SRC), Dr. Shakuntala Thilsted, CGIAR, Prof. Nitya Rao (University of East Anglia), Prof. Christina Hicks (University of Lancaster), and Prof. Jess Fanzo (John Hopkins University), along with other Commissioners and Scientists in the Justice working group. Interaction across working groups (Transformation, Healthy Diets, Sustainable Production, and Food Systems Modelling) are welcome and encouraged. The postdoctoral fellow will also be part of a group of early career scientists connected to the Commission who will serve as a peer group supported by regular meetings and interactions.

Qualification requirements and Assessment criteria
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree completed at latest before the employment is made, but no more than three years before the closing date. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances. Special reasons refer to sick leave, parental leave, elected positions in trade unions, service in the total defense, or other similar circumstances as well as clinical attachment or service/assignments relevant to the subject area.

In the appointment process special attention will be given to research skills needed for the position. We seek a candidate with the following qualifications

• A track record demonstrating excellence in empirical analyses, notably synthesis research, of food systems nutrition and/or sustainability as related to food system justice, and which is demonstrated in academic outputs in the form of scientific publications.
• Skills in reviewing and synthesizing literature, narrative and quantitative analysis, and engagement with the conceptual implications of justice on diets, livelihoods and the environment, drawing on specific examples around nutritional and/or environmental aspects of food systems (e.g. water equity, nutrient recommendations, protection of labour rights and contracts).
• Shown ability to formulate own original research ideas and conduct research independently.
• Willingness to work as part of a transdisciplinary team, and evidence of previous work with researchers from different disciplines.
• Ability to communicate research ideas and results and an interest to engage with stakeholders outside the academic community.
• Excellent written and spoken English skills (Swedish is not a requirement).

Terms of employment
The position involves full-time employment for a minimum of two years and a maximum of three years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date as per agreement.
