Postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Clinical Physiology (PA2024/1611)

Description of the workplace
The postdoc will work in the Cardiac MR-group, Clinical Physiology, Department of Clinical Sciences Lund. This multidisciplinary group of about 40 researchers consists of medical doctors, engineers, physicists, technologists, and physiotherapists.

Tasks and areas of responsibility
At Lund University, a postdoctoral position should provide the opportunity for scientific and educational merit. Primarily, there is room for merit in research, but also for some higher education pedagogical training. Teaching may also be included in the duties.

As a postdoctoral fellow in the Cardiac MR-group, you will mainly work on the following tasks:

• Development post-processing and image reconstruction methods in fetal cardiovascular  MRI.
• Optimization and validation of fetal cardiovascular MRI methods.
• Writing scientific papers for publication in international research journals in the field of MRI.

Other tasks may also be included.

Eligibility
Eligibility for employment as a postdoctoral researcher is limited to those who have a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest by the time the appointment decision is made, and proof that the eligibility requirement has been fulfilled must have been received by that time. Preference will be given to those who have completed their degree no more than three (3) years ago. If there are special reasons, the doctoral degree may have been obtained earlier. Special reasons refer to leave of absence due to illness, parental leave, clinical service, positions of trust in trade union organisations or other similar circumstances.

Assessment criteria
At Lund University, a postdoctoral position shall provide the opportunity for scientific and educational merit. In the first instance, there is scope for merit in research, but also for some higher education pedagogical training. Teaching may also be included in the duties. In the case of employment as a postdoctoral researcher, scientific ability in the subject area will be taken into account.

Other qualifications
The position requires:

• PhD degree relevant for the tasks and responsibilities listed above.
• Experience of development of acquisition and post-processing methods for MRI.
• Skills in writing scientific manuscripts as first author for publication in scientific journals.
• Fluent or advanced knowledge of the English language in speech and writing.

Meritorious for the position are:

• Knowledge and experience of artificial intelligence and machine learning methods.
• Experience in mentoring/supervision of undergraduate students.
• Experience of programming (preferably Matlab).

Great importance will be attached to personal qualities.
The tasks require the ability to work both independently and in a team. 

Terms and conditions
The position is a fixed-term position of two years, 100 % with the desired start date 2024-08-01, or as agreed. Employment at Lund University is conducted in Sweden, you are therefore expected to be able to perform your work on site in Lund.

An employment as a post-doctoral fellow  is limited to a minimum of two years, maximum three years according to the collective agreement on fixed-term employment as a postdoctoral fellow (Arbetsgivarverket). An employment as a postdoctoral fellow is intended as an initial step in the career and as an opportunity to further deepen and broaden research expertise.
