Postdoctor in Molecular

Updated: over 1 year ago
Deadline: Fixed term

The University of Gothenburg tackles society’s challenges with diverse knowledge. 56 000 students and 6 600 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract scientists and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.

The Department of Molecular and Clinical Medicine, at the Institute of Medicine, conducts translational research primarily on metabolism, diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease in order to improve health and healthcare in the community. The overall goal is to create an excellent translational research environment of a very high international standard.

The post-doc will perform research in the group of Prof. Giovanni Solinas. Research in the lab focuses on the role of different class-1 PI3K in the insulin system in the context of obesity, diabetes, and cancer.

Subject area

Molecular Medicine

Subject area description

Research in our group is focused on the study of the role of PI3K signaling at the interface between metabolic homeostasis and tissue homeostasis, with direct implication to the therapy of Obesity, Diabetes, and Cancer. More specifically, research will focus on the role of PI3K isoforms in the development of diet-induced obesity and insulin resistance using genetically modified mice, pharmacological inhibitors, viral vectors and primary cell culture (mouse and human).

  • PI3Kγ activity in leukocytes promotes adipose tissue inflammation and early-onset insulin resistance during obesity. Science Signaling 2017 PMID:28720716

  • Duties

100% Research. Pre-clinical studies (mice/rats and primary cell culture, human and rodents), data analysis and organization, group presentations as well as participation to external conferences. The postdoctoral project focuses on defining the role of PI3K isoforms in the development of obesity and insulin resistance using genetically modified mice, pharmacological inhibitors, viral vectors and primary cell culture (mouse and human).

    Eligibility

To qualify as a postdoctoral researcher the applicant should hold a PhD in a relevant subject. Since postdoctoral constitutes a qualifying appointment for junior researchers, we aim to target those who have a doctoral degree not older than 3 years.

    Assessment criteria

Selection will be based on CV and interview of candidates by videoconference. Specific requirements: PhD degree in a life sciences/biomedicine related field. Previous experience in one or more of these disciplines is desired: physiology; cell biology; signal transduction; molecular biology; biochemistry; metabolism; cancer.

It is required that the applicant is fluent in English both written and spoken, has a collaborative approach, and is passionate about experimental science and hands-on lab work.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

    Employment

Type of employment: Fixed-term employment, 24 months Extent: 100 % Location: Institute of Medicine, Gothenburg First day of employment: According to agreement, not later than March 31st 2023.
