At the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, at the Sahlgrenska Academy, we conduct research and education covering a wide range of knowledge areas. The institute comprises five different departments: Clinical Neuroscience, Health and Rehabilitation, Pharmacology, Physiology and Psychiatry and Neurochemistry.
The Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, invites applications for a postdoctoral position at the Department of Physiology. The position will focus on animal physiology as well as cell and molecular biology.
Subject area description
Studies of hormone secretion in the endocrine pancreas and the impact of metabolic and hormonal secretagogues.
The successful candidate will direct animal studies, which will involve a responsibility for animal husbandry. This will involve establishment of animal models of diabetes (mice as well as drosophila or C. elegans).
Other duties include cell and tissue culture, histological techniques (embedding, sectioning and staining of tissue, immunohistochemistry), molecular biology techniques such as quantitative real-time PCR and transfection, extraction of plasmid DNA, ELISA etc.
To qualify as a postdoctoral researcher the applicant should hold a PhD in a relevant subject. Since postdoctoral constitutes a qualifying appointment for junior researchers, we aim to target those who have a doctoral degree not older than 3 years from the application deadline.
A PhD in physiology/metabolism and molecular biology is preferable.
Applicants are expected to have experience of animal models, animal housing, organ resection and biochemical techniques. Another requirement is documented experience of studies of hormone release from isolated mouse or human pancreatic islets. Of particular importance is solid experience of research in the areas of endocrinology and animal physiology.
We are looking for a motivated individual with interest and experience in research in metabolic physiology and the function of the pancreatic islets.We welcome applications from people with good organizational skills and who can work independently. It is of importance that the applicant is meticulous, has good collaboration skills and is flexible. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.
The employment is limited (temporary) for 24 months, 100% of full-time and is placed at the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology. Starting date; as soon as possible or as agreed.
