Postdoc position on organic/materials chemistry with focus on organic electrocatalysis

Updated: about 1 year ago
Deadline: 04 Jun 2023

We have the power of over 40,000 students and co-workers. Students who provide hope for the future. Co-workers who contribute to Linköping University meeting the challenges of the day. Our fundamental values rest on credibility, trust and security. By having the courage to think freely and innovate, our actions together, large and small, contribute to a better world. We look forward to receiving your application!

We are now looking to appoint a postdoc in the field of organic/materials chemistry with focus on organic electrocatalysis

This recruitment is connected to the Wallenberg Initiative Materials Science for Sustainability (WISE, wise-materials.org ). WISE, funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, is the largest-ever investment in materials science in Sweden and will encompass major efforts at Sweden’s foremost universities over the course of 10 years. The vision is a sustainable future through materials science.

Research area and workplace
LOE/ITN is renowned for its world-leading research on electrochemical devices, bioelectronics, printed electronics, and nanooptics based on organic materials and involving the coupling of ion and electron movement. Currently, the research staff of LOE includes over 150 researchers (professors, senior and junior scientists, and PhD students) and offers a dynamic multidisciplinary environment, see http://liu.se/loe .

The postdoc position will be part of Organic Chemistry group led by Assoc. Prof. Renee Kroon at the Laboratory of Organic Electronics. Our research focuses on design and synthesis of functionalized conjugated polymers for organic electronic applications, tailoring their interactions with external stimuli, foreign materials, and biological systems. We also work on renewable organic electronic technologies and sustainable synthesis/processing of conjugated polymer using enzyme catalysis and renewable feedstock. (https://liu.se/en/research/organic-chemistry ).

Work assignments
The successful candidate will explore conjugated polymers for efficient, robust electrocatalysis of oxygen reduction reactions. A postdoc has various tasks, including reading and learning on the research topic, driving the research, designing, and performing experiments, analyzing the results, writing scientific articles, presenting the research results at conferences, active participation in the group meetings.

More specifically, the research topics are:

  • Synthesis of conjugated polymers with rational variations in their chemical design
  • Establishing relationships between chemical structure, physicochemical and catalytic properties

All early-stage researchers recruited into the WISE program will be a part of the WISE Graduate School, Graduate School | WISE (wise-materials.org ) an ambitious nationwide program of seminars, courses, research visits, and other activities to promote a strong multi-disciplinary and international network between PhD students, postdocs, researchers, and industry.

As a postdoc, you will principally carry out research. A certain amount of teaching may be part of your duties, up to a maximum of 20% of working hours.

Qualifications
To be qualified to take employment as postdoc, you must have been awarded a doctoral degree with a specialization in organic chemistry have a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree.  This degree must have been awarded at the latest by the point at which LiU makes its decision to employ you.

It is considered advantageous if your doctoral degree is no older than three years at application deadline for this job. If there are special reasons for having an older doctoral degree – such as taking statutory leave – then these may be taken into consideration.

Expertise in synthetic chemistry is essential, and expertise on catalytic redox chemistry highly desirable. Oral and written communication skills in English are a requirement.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities.

The employment
This post is a temporary contract of two years with the possibility of extension up to a total maximum of three years. The position as a postdoc is full-time.

Starting date
By agreement.
