Postdoc position in silviculture

Updated: about 4 hours ago

We are seeking a highly motivated person to conduct research in silviculture of predominantly broadleaved forests of southern Sweden.
About the position

The project focuses on regeneration and early stand management for broadleave dominated forests- aiming to produce high quality timber, evaluating production and economy of the future stand development. The forest types are usually high or low intensity managed rotational forestry, using natural regeneration or planting. The postdoctor will establish new forest experiments and measure our existing experiments, in order to carry out necessary data analysis and the scientific reporting of the outcome. The scientific issues and results should revolve around development of silvicultural methods and practical implementation of adaptations to climate change.

The candidate will belong to the silviculture unit at the department and work in a silviculture team with focus on forest management for multiuse purposes, addressing issues on climate change adaptation and high-versus low intensity forestry. We use empirical and process based modelling, with input data from the National Forest Inventory or from our long term experiments.

Your profile

The candidate must have a PhD degree in silviculture and/or forest management or a very similar subject. The candidate must have proven experience in data analysis of tree and stand data, described in scientific publications and/or thesis. Excellent written and oral English is also a must.

Extra merits are previous experience in design of forest experiments for regeneration or stand management and experience of the tree species in northern Europe. The department sees a big value in candidates that are interested in teaching and supervision of undergraduate students. It is also an advantage if the candidate have a valid drivers license and an interest in conducting field work.

As postdoctoral appointments are career-developing positions for junior researchers, we are primarily looking for candidates with a doctoral degree that is three years old at most.
