Offer Description

SLU Swedish Species Information Centre

SLU Swedish Species Information Centre is a national centre for species and habitats. We contribute to a sustainable management of the natural resources by collecting, analyzing and making data available, and by describing and presenting facts about biodiversity. We interact nationally and internationally, with a conservation benefit in focus.

Duties
We seek a person who will develop hierarchical models for the dynamics of single species or the full community of forest plants in relation to stand and climate conditions. You can thus focus on single species colonization-extinction dynamics, or on the joint dynamics of community members, acknowledging their life-history traits (HMSC). The data on >200 plant species have been collected on the repeatedly surveyed, permanent Swedish National Forest Inventory plots, representing ca. 25 million hectare ha of land. You may also apply the models as part of optimization of future forest use to reach objectives on future revenue, biodiversity, ecosystem services and climate. Our integrated simulation system allows identifying/optimizing synergies, trade-offs and compromises in the use of forests to reach different objectives for the future. The work will be conducted in collaboration with postdocs in mainly the Biodiversa-project ForMonBio, but also in the Horizon Europe-project ForestNavigator and ForestValue-project SustMultBiomass.

Qualifications
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in ecology, statistics, environmental science or equivalent. Required is earlier research on modelling/simulating population or community patterns or dynamics in relation to environmental conditions. Good knowledge of forest dynamics, forestry, R-, BUGS- or JAGS-programming is meriting. Priority will be given to applicants who have completed their PhD within three years before the application deadline. This time span is however not a requirement - we are seeking a highly motivated person who is keen to contribute to this exciting, interdisciplinary research field.
