Postdoc in yeast synthetic biology

Updated: over 1 year ago
Deadline: 09 Sep 2022

Do you want to develop novel engineered living materials? In this project, we aim to generate 3D-printed tissues that will be based on synthetic consortia consisting of different cell types. We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher interested in optimizing yeast strains that will form part of these consortia. You will be able to apply state-of-the-art synthetic biology tools and technologies including metabolite biosensors, CRISPR-based strain engineering and high-throughput screening techniques joining a vibrant team of international scientists.

Information about the project and the division
The project is embedded in a research group that focuses on the development of synthetic biology tools for yeast metabolic engineering. It is part of an EU-financed project involving 5 international project partners from both academia and industry.

The Division of Systems and Synthetic Biology at the Chalmers University of Technology is one of the world leading research groups in systems biology of metabolism. Our research interests involve a wide range of activities from understanding the fundamental operational principles of metabolism and studies of metabolic diseases, to highly applied research directed towards development of new cell factories for the production of valuable chemicals.

Major responsibilities
We are seeking a highly motivated, creative and independent post-doctoral candidate interested in yeast synthetic biology. Your major responsibilities are to develop and test novel scientific concepts, analyze and discuss your results, communicate your research in different settings, and to work in close collaboration with other team members.

Qualifications
You should have a PhD degreee in a biological field with a strong background in synthetic biology, awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline (according to the current agreement with the Swedish Agency for Government Employers). Experience with yeast genetic engineering is a must. You should have strong skills in molecular biology, metabolic engineering, data analysis, statistics, and communication of scientific results. Experience with CRISPR technologies, GoldenGate and Gibson cloning, flow cytometry, FACS, droplet microfluidics, analysis of next generation sequencing data, HPLC, GC-MS is a bonus.

The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Swedish is not a requirement but Chalmers offers Swedish courses.

Contract terms
This postdoc position is a full-time temporary employment for 3 years (2+1 year).
