Postdoc in pore-scale modelling of green roof leaching

Updated: over 1 year ago
Deadline: 18 Dec 2022

Within this doctoral position we aim at propose innovative sustainable designs of green roof materials, by means of a fluid-dynamic investigation on the phenomena governing mass transport and adsorption/desorption in porous media.

Information about the project and the division
We offer a postdoctoral position within the project "Pore-scale modelling of green roof leaching", which aims at investigating innovative designs of green roofs, able to retain contaminants, from fluid-dynamic perspective. In particular, the optimal green roof microstructural design is investigated by means of computational pore-scale modelling. The project is part of a collaborative initiative between the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering and the Mechanics and Maritime Science Department , and it will be host in the latter, within the Division of Fluid-dynamics .

Major responsibilities
You will contribute to the project, by modelling and simulating mass transport and contaminant adsorption/desorption in porous media, via the Lattice-Boltzmann method. You will analyze the produced virtual data, and you will provide physical interpretation on the pore-scale adsorption/desorption phenomena, to guide the future design of sustainable green roofs in the cities.

Your responsibility as a postdoc is also to perform your own research in a research group. The position may also include teaching on undergraduate and master's levels as well as supervising master's and/or PhD students to a certain extent. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.

Qualifications
To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must hold a doctoral degree awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline (according to the current agreement with the Swedish Agency for Government Employers). The PhD must be in a relevant field such as Mechanical or Civil Engineering. You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education. Basic knowledge of fluid-dynamics and scientific computing is mandatory. Knowledge on CFD and Lattice-Boltzmann methodology is very welcomed.

The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Swedish is not a requirement but Chalmers offers Swedish courses.

Contract terms
This postdoc position is a full-time temporary employment for two years.
