Postdoc in Operando tomography for next generation batteries

Information about the division
The research at the division of Materials Physics is directed towards fundamental molecular level understanding of structure and dynamics of materials in relation to macroscopic function. A particular focus is energy related materials for next generation batteries, including nano-structured materials for high capacity and high rate electrodes, novel electrolyte systems and stabilisation of metal anodes. We work with both theory/modelling and experiments, both at in-house laboratories and at synchrotron and neutron facilities.

The aim of the project is to advance the understanding of fundamental processes and based on that design new materials for next generation batteries. In this post-doc project you will work on development of operando characterization with x-ray tomography to take advantage of recent development on synchrotron sources. The work will be linked to development projects at the MAXIV facility.

Major responsibilities
You will be a part of the Division of Materials Physics at the Department of Physics. The major part of your time will be devoted to your project, where you will be expected to plan, perform and disseminate the work in larger and small collaborative constellations. Interaction with collaborating international research groups and with industry will also be part of the work.

Contract terms
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1).

Qualifications
To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must have a doctoral degree in Materials Science, Physics, or equivalent. The degree should generally not be older than three years. Previous experience on operando methods for battery research and in particular x-ray tomography is required. Previous research experienece on next generation batteries (LiS and Li-metal) is seen as an advantage. Very good communication and collaborative skills are required, including excellent oral and written reporting in English. Swedish is not a requirement but Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
