Job description

The post doc position is funded by the EU FET H2020 project “The Human Brain Project” (HBP, SGA3), and addresses research in event-based vision and neuronal computation for robotic systems. The successful candidate will explore the use of spiking sensors and algorithms, ideally on dedicated neuromorphic hardware (such as SpiNNaker, Spikey, or Loihi) to control real or virtual robots in the neurorobotics platform (NRP, ). Multiple experiments are envisioned, ranging from motor-control for compliant tendon-driven robots (e.g. for Neuroprosthetic Devices), up to event-based vision for scene understanding and mobile robot navigation. Optionally technology transfer from the lab environment into industry or Start-up Company. The advertised position might include a 20% teaching obligation.

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline (With some exceptions for special reasons such as periods of sick or parental leave, kindly indicate if such reason exists in your resume).

Preferred qualifications

  • Preferred qualifications include expertise about event-based vision systems (dynamic vision), neuronal networks and computational neuroscience, neurocomputing hardware (preferably SpiNNaker) and experience in robotic applications.

About the employment

The position offered is for 1 year, and at the most can be extended to in total 2 years.

A position as a postdoctoral fellow is a time-limited qualified appointment focusing mainly on research, intended as a first career step after a dissertation.
