The Department of Economics belongs to the School of Business, Economics and Law at University of Gothenburg and the department has around 100 employees from several countries. The teaching within the department is economics and statistics and the department has around 800 students registered at courses and programs. There is a diverse set of researchers at the department where several of them are internationally well-known economists. The research conducted is within a broad range of areas, including labor, environmental, development, behavioral, and financial economics. Applications are welcome for a two-year post-doctoral position in Environmental Economics, Department of Economics, University of Gothenburg. The Environmental Economics Unit is an exciting and dynamic research group with a large number of projects on environment and natural resources. The focus of our work is on policy instrument design or valuation. We work closely with behavioral, experimental and development economics.


Job assignments

The position mainly involves research within health economics. There will also be some teaching/ supervision assignments within the position. The candidate is expected to conduct independent research within health economics, primarily related to the organization of health care and health care markets. Specifically, the candidate is expected to analyze data from existing administrative health care registers, but also be part of additional data collections.

A part of the candidate’s research is expected to be conducted within existing projects relating to the organization of primary health care, and specifically on the effects of digital care contacts and continuity in the provider-patient relationship. 

As the employment is partly funded by the Centre for Health Governance, the applicant is also expected to actively participate in the ongoing work within the Centre and participate in research meetings, seminars and conferences. We expect candidates to aim at publishing in leading or highly ranked journals. The candidate should also strive to develop external research applications, either alone or in group with other researchers.


Qualifications

To qualify as a postdoctoral researcher the candidate should hold a PhD in a relevant subject. For this position the applicant should hold a recent PhD (or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree) in economics, health economics, or in a similar field covering analysis and interpretation of health care data.  This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made. Since postdoctoral constitutes a qualifying appointment for junior researchers, we aim to target those who have a doctoral degree not older than 5 years from the application deadline. Eligibility for and decision on employment as a postdoctoral fellow are specified in the Agreement on Temporary Employment as a Postdoctoral Fellow dated 2021-11-19 and the University of Gothenburg's appointment regulations.

We are looking for a person who has some experience of empirical analysis related to the research areas listed under Job assignments above. The candidate has preferably conducted quantitative research within organization of health care using Swedish administrative health care records, specifically related to areas that the candidate is expected to conduct research in (such as digital care contacts and continuity in provider-patient relationship). Skills in applied econometrics and previous experience of handling of large datasets are highly meritorious. It is of great importance that the candidate has a good understanding of Swedish health care and Swedish administrative records.  

The applicant who, in the overall assessment of skills and potential, is deemed to be best suited to carry out the identified job assignments will be selected for the position. Research potential will be a key selection criterion, with a particular emphasis on the degree of progression and forward-looking aspects of the research. The applicants’ skills in collaborating internally, externally and in an interdisciplinary context will be given weight.

The candidate must master English in speech and writing. As the employment is limited to two years, it is important that the applicants quickly can start working with and analyzing administrative health care registers. Therefore, the candidate must have previous experience of health care registers (or similar administrative data) and/or master Swedish.  


Employment 

A position as Post-doctor aims to give new holders of the doctorate the opportunity to strengthen and develop their scholarly proficiency.

The employment as Post-doctor is a temporary employment during 2 years with an extent of 100 %, located at the Department of Economics, University of Gothenburg. Starting date is July 2023.
