Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

The Department of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment (www.slu.se/aquatic-sciences ) is working with applied environmental science, with a national responsibility for assessing the condition of Swedish surface waters with respect to water chemistry, pollution and aquatic biota. The department has some 130 employees. The research focuses on geochemical and hydrological processes, aquatic ecology and biodiversity, as well as on aquatic ecotoxicology and environmental chemistry. The department is part of a Soil-Water-Environment cluster, a recently established competence centre for landscape-level processes that also includes the Departments of ‘Soil and Environment’ and ‘Energy and Technology’. The breadth of expertise among the 300 members in combination with a well-equipped infrastructure creates a unique platform for high quality research as well as environmental monitoring and assessment.

The project will be within the European Partnership for the Assessment of Risks from Chemicals (PARC), which is funded by "Horizon Europe". It omprises 200 partners from 28 countries and includes agencies and research organisations working in the areas of chemicals, environment and human health (www.anses.fr/en/content/european-partnership-assessment-risks-chemicals-parc ).

Duties:

We are seeking a postdoc, who will work on development and application of methods for environmental and multisource monitoring of micropollutants using target, suspect and non-target screening workflows (LC-MS/MS and LC-HRMS; Orbitrap). The developed monitoring and identification tools will be linked to Early Warning Systems with the aim to identify new and existing potentially hazardous substances, such as per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFASs), and their sources in the environment. The duties also include field sampling, extraction of water samples, data analysis, processing of large data sets, statistical evaluation and scientific publication. The postdoc will also take responsibility for project management as well as leading and organizing meetings within the project PARC.

Qualifications:

Applicants should hold a PhD degree in environmental or analytical chemistry, or equivalent. As postdoctoral appointments are career-developing positions for junior researchers, we are primarily looking for candidates with a doctoral degree that is three years old at most. Specialisation towards water analyses at trace level and experience with methods for identification of chemicals using LC-MS/MS and LC-HRMS are valuable merits. Data processing skills using statistical computing and graphics, e.g. R, MATLAB, etc., are of merits too. Emphasis is also placed on personal characteristics such as communication skills, interpersonal skills, analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently. Proficiency in English (both spoken and written) is required.
