Postdoc in electrochemical water splitting

Updated: almost 2 years ago
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 29 May 2022

We are looking for a postdoc to study synthesis of inorganic nanomaterials and their performance as electrocatalysts for water splitting.

The Department of Materials- and Environmental Chemistry (MMK) is one of the largest departments at the Faculty of Natural Sciences at Stockholm University with about 160 employees. The extensive research activities of MMK encompass both the development and characterization of large groups of (functional) materials, such as catalyst materials, soft matter and polymers, biomaterials, self-assembled and porous materials, for primarily applications in Materials Science and Sustainable/Green Chemistry. The experimental characterisation techniques involve X-ray and neutron diffraction, electron microscopy, NMR and other spectroscopic techniques, along with modelling by computer simulations. Environmental aspects are an important part of the research activities.

Closing date: 29 May 2022. Dnr: SU-432-0076-22

Project description

The postdoctoral scholar selected for this project will study synthesis of inorganic nanomaterials and their performance as electrocatalysts for water splitting. A focus during the project will be on hybride catalysts consisting of more than one phase

for the OER reaction. Characterization of the materials will be carried out by means of e.g. powder X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy and electrochemical measurements. The project is funded by a scholarship from Carl Tryggers Stiftelse

Qualification requirements

Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research and we invite a self-motivated and creative individual for the position. Applicants are expected to hold a doctoral degree equivalent to the requirements for a Swedish degree.

Assessment criteria

The PhD-degree should have been completed no more than three years before the deadline for the application. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances, which may involve sick leave, parental leave, clinical attachment, elected positions in trade unions, or similar.

Special attention will be given to research skills in the evaluation and selection process. The successful candidate must have documented experience in electrochemistry and thorough knowledge in synthetic chemistry. The candidate must document the experience through publication in renown, peer-reviewed scientific journals and/or a PhD thesis in the relevant field.

Terms of employment

The position involves a fellowship for two years. Starting date 1st September 2022 or as per agreement. As the position is financed via a scholarship the position must be filled by a non-Swedish citizen with a doctor degree acquired in another country than Sweden. Stockholm University strives to be a workplace free from discrimination and with equal opportunities for all.
