Postdoc in computational biophysics

Updated: over 2 years ago
Deadline: 31 Aug 2021

KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm has grown to become one of Europe’s leading technical and engineering universities, as well as a key centre of intellectual talent and innovation. We are Sweden’s largest technical research and learning institution and home to students, researchers and faculty from around the world. Our research and education covers a wide area including natural sciences and all branches of engineering, as well as architecture, industrial management, urban planning, history and philosophy.

Job description

The division of Biophysics is located at Science for Life Laboratory, where the team develops some of the world’s most used tools for modelling biological systems with particular applications to membrane proteins and techniques for drug design. As part of a pilot project within the EuroHPC infrastructure we seek a postdoctoral scholar to work on porting and optimizing the molecular dynamics simulation code GROMACS for new computer architectures based on RISC-V. The duties involve algorithms development and programming both for accelerators and new traditional CPU-architectures, as well as parallelization and optimization of algorithms such as FFTs to enable large-scale simulations e.g. of membrane proteins. The work will include collaboration and conference travel, in particular in Europe.

What we offer
  • A position at a leading technical university that generates knowledge and skills for a sustainable future
  • Engaged and ambitious colleagues along with a creative, international and dynamic working environment
  • Work in Stockholm, in close proximity to nature
  • A world-leading research environment in life science and biophysics that is also diverse and gender-balanced.
  • Active mentorship and career development targeting both academia and industry.
  • Excellent international networks, with collaboration and conference travel to both Europe and the US.
  • Help to relocate and be settled in Sweden and at KTH

  • Experience in leading the preparation of scientific publications.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English, as it is required in the daily work.

Preferred qualifications

We expect that you are an active researcher who has led at least one scientific publication and prefer that you have already worked with accelerators, molecular dynamics or similar techniques. It is commendable with prior experience from working with development of molecular dynamics codes, and experience with modeling motion/binding of proteins is also useful. A strong track record of teaching is also a merit, as well as awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues with specific focus on gender equality. It is important that the candidate can work efficiently both as part of a larger team and independently.
