Offer Description
Department of Forest Genetics and Plant Physiology

The Department of forest genetics and plant physiology is part of Umeå Plant Science Centre (UPSC, https://www.upsc.se ) which is a centre of excellence for experimental plant research and forest biotechnology in Northern Sweden. Our mission is to perform excellent and innovative basic research and generate knowledge that benefits forestry, agriculture, environment and society. We work across a wide range of disciplines in plant science reaching from cell biology to ecophysiology and from basic research to industrial applications. Our common goal is to understand the plants’ ability to grow, adapt and acclimate to a changing world and how we can breed better plants.

About the position

A two year post-doctoral position with possibility for extension at Umeå Plant Science Center starting to work on the role of transcription factors controlling bud break in trees. Bhalerao group has identified several candidate transcription factors in hybrid aspen that are involved in bud break. The project will focus on using biochemical, genomic approaches e. g. Chip-seq, and generation and analysis of transgenic hybrid aspen trees in which candidate transcription factors will be mutated using Crispr-Cas9 approaches to understand the function of candidate transcription factors.

The selected candidate will join a team using multidisciplinay approaches that range from cell biology and genomics.

Your profile

As a candidate, you must have a PhD in a relevant natural science field and have a strong background in cell biology, biochemistry and molecular biology. You also need experience of working with transgenic hybrid aspen and Arabidopsis. Preference will be given to candidates have experienced in using ChiP-seq and Crispr approaches and generation and analysis of transgenic hybrid aspen trees. A requirement is that you have good communication skills in English in both speech and writing.

As postdoctoral appointments are career-developing positions for junior researchers, we are primarily looking for candidates with a doctoral degree that is three years old at most.
