Postdoc in Biochemistry/Cell-biology (scholarship)

We are looking for a highly motivated post-doc with a keen eye for molecular mechanisms in biology to help us investigate how Notch receptors and ADAM proteases interact. Our team is a leading group in the field of DNA nanotechnology and molecular tools for life-science research. As a research lab we strive to unravel how spatial relations between molecules on the nanoscale level affect biology. We have recently discovered a mode of activation of Notch that does not require pulling forces that we want to investigate further. These are hard-to-get-to problems where many traditional methods are inadequate. The field of nanoscale fysiology is now waiting to be fully explored and we are at the forefront of developing the right technologies for the job.

The Högberg lab (www.hogberglab.net ) is part of the division for Molecular Systems Biotechnology at the department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics at the Karolinska Institutet (KI). The lab is currently a diverse team of physicists, biologists, chemists and computational biologists. We offer a stimulating scientific environment and a top research infrastructure both locally, at the department level and institution level. KI is among the world’s top medical universities and KI’s faculty awards the Nobel Prize in physiology and medicine.

If you fulfil at least a couple of the following criteria you are encouraged to apply. In order of decreasing importance, you should:

• - Have a solid base in experimental biochemistry, molecular biology.
• - Have experience with cell culture, preferably iPS
• - Have experience with DNA nanostructures, protein-DNA conjugation
• - Have experience with proximity labelling assays such as BioID, TurboID or similar.
• - Have familiarity with the Notch pathway, ADAM 10, gamma secretase
• - Have skills in analysing datasets, image analysis.
• - Have knowledge of cell and developmental biology.

Our research is curiosity driven and the lab will provide ample opportunity for creative persons to strongly influence the direction of his/her project. Because of this we are primarily interested in individuals that are highly motivated and that aim to become independent researchers.

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Location: Solna

The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.
