Job description

This project aims to the development of bio-based and high-performing polymeric barrier materials for packaging solutions of fiber raw material. We further aim to understand and model structures and properties during production, use, and recycling.

The scientific objectives are: i) Devising feasible and sustainable pathways for the production of barrier materials, ii) integration into packaging solutions, and iii) in-depth understanding of structural and chemical relationships that govern the performance of the materials during application, use and in the recycling process.

Work tasks include laboratory and analytical work, planning, developing, implementing and evaluating syntheses and materials, as well as written and oral presentation. The project is a Vinnova-financed collaboration between KTH and several companies and provides a great opportunity to work in a network within academia and industry in Sweden.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.
  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline (With some exceptions for special reasons such as periods of sick or parental leave, kindly indicate if such reason exists in your resume).
  • Competence in chemistry, materials science with a focus on polymeric materials and/or polymer technology from higher education or equivalent studies
  • Research expertise
  • Collaborative abilities
  • Independence and a problem-solving ability
  • Good English skills, since it is required in the daily work,  equivalent to English B/6, read more here.

Preferred qualifications

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline
  • A doctoral degree in chemistry, material science with focus on polymer materials, polymer technology or eqvivalent.

  • Teaching abilities

Practical and theoretical experience in bio-based polymers and/or polymer packaging materials is strongly qualifying. Great emphasis will be placed on personal competency

About the employment

The position offered is for, at the most, two years.

A position as a postdoctoral fellow is a time-limited qualified appointment focusing mainly on research, intended as a first career step after a dissertation.
