The post-doctoral project

The two-year post-doctoral project, financed by the company Mellby Gård AB, will focus on organization and governance of farmer cooperatives in Sweden, the pros and cons of cooperative organisations, the balance of power and the conflicts of interest between members, boards and management. The project will also address questions related to market power and pricing, and where cooperatives differ from other forms of organization of business, and alternative forms, whether these change over time or differ between sectors and in various institutional settings. The post doc will belong to the department´s Business Management research group, will collaborate with a number of researchers operating in adjacent areas and in close collaboration with Mellby Gård AB.


Duties:

The work duties of this post-doctoral position include research as well as communication activities. The post doc is expected to develop, run and publish high quality research as well as take part in collaborative projects and to actively participate in grant writing. The person filling this position will be expected to contribute to a highly visible research based program within the subject area.


Qualifications:

The following are required qualifications:

  • PhD degree or a foreign degree equivalent to a doctorate within a subject area relevant for this position. To be appointed as a post-doc, the applicant should have been awarded her/his PhD no more than three years before the time of application. Candidates who have submitted their PhD dissertation and waiting the final examination are encouraged to apply.
  • A background in one or a combination of the following scientific areas:
  • Economics / Agricultural Economics
  • Organization theory,
  • New institutional economics
  • Contract theory,
  • Analysis of value chains,
  • Economic sociology.
  • Excellent written and oral English communication skills
  • Documented experience publishing in peer reviewed journals
  • Effective inter- and intrapersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience of working cohesively in an inter-disciplinary team environment
  • An ability to work independently

In addition, a good understanding and knowledge of the Swedish agrifood-system will be a plus. Also, emphasis will be given to personal suitability.
