The Automatic Control engineering group at the Department of Computer Science, Electrical, and Space engineering at Luleå University of Technology is since long time established in the area of control and optimization of complex dynamic systems in, for example, the mining and process industry, energy production, energy distribution and data centers. In these industries, there is a strong focus on sustainability and circularity and a need for research efforts in terms of control and optimization to achieve this. The research group is therefore looking for a knowledgeable and committed person for a position as a postdoc in this growing area.

Subject description
Automatic Control comprises the analysis and synthesis of models and model-based algorithms for control, estimation, and monitoring of complex dynamic systems.

Research topic /
The research topic is in the area of Control Engineering. More specifically, the position will require research activities in the areas of system modeling, monitoring, optimization and control applied to process industrial and energy systems. Examples of applications that may be considered are unit processes in the mining industry, hydropower turbines, waste-heat recovery in data centers etc.

Duties
You will perform research in a collaborative environment with industry partners and other academic researchers, where theoretical research is combined with practical applications. The results should be published in highly reputed peer-reviewed international journals and conferences. The position will include supervision of MSc and PhD students, to acquire funding for research projects from research funding agencies/councils, EU framework program or industry, and to participate in the teaching activities of the research group. You will need to represent the group at different events, both in Sweden and abroad.

As a post doctor, you are expected work independently and engage pro-actively in ongoing research efforts at the research group with your specific expertise.

Qualifications
To qualify for employment as a postdoctoral research fellow, you must have a PhD, or doctoral degree or a foreign degree equivalent to a doctorate or doctoral degree in the field of automatic control or related area. Priority will be given to candidates who have completed their PhD within three years prior to the application deadline. If there are special circumstances, the PhD can have been completed earlier. Special circumstances mean leave due to illness, parental leave, clinical practice, trade union duties, or similar. Applicants who are very close to finish a PhD are also encouraged to apply.

Scientific skills of the highest standard, a track record of experimental and application work, experience in attracting research grants, excellence in communication and management are considered as merits.
