The Department is responsible for several environmental monitoring and assessment programmes, including the National Forest Inventory, National Inventory of Landscapes in Sweden, and Terrestrial Habitat Monitoring. The Department has approximately 100 employees. For more information visit: www.slu.se/srh .
Duties:
The Department is looking for a PostDoc within the area of Forest Remote Sensing. The PostDoc will analyze patterns of biodiversity in boreal forests from remotely sensed data, in particular high-resolution airborne laser scanning data. The work includes development of methods for deriving information from the remotely sensed data, statistical analysis of the relation between the information derived from remote sensing and a unique dataset consisting of inventory data of key substrates and structures for biodiversity and of several species groups, and validation of the results including field visits. The candidate will work in research projects with other researchers in forest remote sensing and ecology.

The candidate must hold a PhD in a relevant area, such as remote sensing, ecology, or forest science. Merits for this position are computational programming or computational scripting, knowledge about ecology or forest management/forest inventory, and experience of restoration ecology as well as analysis of forest or other vegetation from remotely sensed data. Great emphasis is placed on personal qualities such as analytical and problem solving ability, ability to work independently and collaborative ability.
