PostDoc in Computer Science with focus on Cybersecurity, Performance, and/or Related Areas

Updated: over 1 year ago
Deadline: 28 Oct 2022

Skilled and committed employees are a crucial factor in the success of Linköping University. And we need more of them. Our core expertise comes from teachers and researchers, but a successful university requires experienced and motivated employees in many fields. Everyone is important. We need to recruit many new employees thanks to, among all, an expansion in our research activity. We need you here. We look forward to receiving your application!

The Department of Computer and Information Science was founded in 1983 but its roots go back to the early 1970s. It is one of the largest computer science departments in northern Europe.

Our research covers a broad spectrum of fields, from core to applied computer sciences. Its vast scope also benefits our undergraduate and graduate programmes, and we now teach courses in several engineering programmes at bachelor’s and master’s levels, as well as the programmes in statistics, cognitive science and innovative programming.

We are now looking to appoint a postdoc in the field of Computer Science with focus on cybersecurity, performance, and/or related areas.

Work assignments
The position is funded by the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP) in Sweden and is part of a joint project between Linköping University (LiU) and the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore.

This project builds on a new collaboration between LiU and NTU, in which we plan to study security, scalability, and novel applications of blockchains and related technologies.

The PI at LiU is Niklas Carlsson (Senior Associate Professor), whose research interest includes performance evaluation, security/privacy, multimedia systems, and internet measurements, and the PI at NTU is Jun Zhao (Assistant Professor).

Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP) is Sweden’s largest individual research program ever, a major national initiative for strategically motivated basic research, education and faculty recruitment. The program addresses research on artificial intelligence and autonomous systems acting in collaboration with humans, adapting to their environment through sensors, information and knowledge, and forming intelligent systems-of-systems. The vision of WASP is excellent research and competence in artificial intelligence, autonomous systems and software for the benefit of Swedish industry.

As a postdoc within this three-year project, you will be expected to conduct high-quality research and help drive the joint research project from the LiU-side.  We are also planning research visits to our NTU collaborators.

We seek self-motivated candidates with demonstrated academic excellence and a genuine interest in discovering, learning, and carefully exploring new things. As the ideal candidate, we expect you to have demonstrated excellence in some research field related to the project or neighboring topics (with preference given to areas closer to the interest of the PIs).  The position is open to people that have shown excellence in one of several ways, including (but not limited to) with regards to abstracting and solving new problems (e.g., strong mathematical and algorithmic skills), working with real-world data (e.g., large-scale measurements and data analysis), or systems-oriented research (e.g., setup, instrument, and modify a system to do new/improved things). Finally, we expect that you have good communication and presentation skills in English.

As postdoc, you will principally carry out research. A certain amount of teaching may be part of your duties, up to a maximum of 20% of working hours.

More information on the position and research project can be obtained from the contact persons.

The workplace
You will be employed in the Division for Database and Information Techniques (ADIT), in the Department of Computer and Information Science (IDA). Here, you will be working in the Network and Security group together with Niklas Carlsson. Using a mix of methodologies, we publish high-quality research in the top conferences and journals of several research areas, including performance evaluation, cybersecurity, internet measurements, multimedia systems, privacy, and applied data analytics. The group offers a positive and supportive environment that will provide many opportunities to develop your skills and become a world-class researcher.

Qualifications
To be qualified to take employment as postdoc, you must have been awarded a doctoral degree or have a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree. This degree must have been awarded at the latest by the point at which LiU makes its decision to employ you.

It is considered advantageous if your doctoral degree is no older than three years at the application deadline for this job. If there are special reasons for having an older doctoral degree – such as taking statutory leave – then these may be taken into consideration.

We are seeking applicants who have a PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fields. You should be self-motivated and demonstrate academic excellence in some research field related to the project or neighboring topics (with preference given to areas closer to the interest of the PIs).  Applicants must also have good communication skills (in English) and have published in good scientific journals and/or conferences.
