The Department of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment (www.slu.se/aquatic-sciences ) is working with applied environmental science, with a national responsibility for assessing the condition of Swedish surface waters with respect to water chemistry, pollution and aquatic biota. The department has some 130 employees. The research focuses on geochemical and hydrological processes, aquatic ecology and biodiversity, as well as on environmental chemistry and aquatic ecotoxicology. The department is part of a Soil-Water-Environment cluster, a competence centre for landscape-level processes that also includes the Departments of ‘Soil and Environment’ and ‘Energy and Technology’. The breadth of expertise among the 300 members in combination with a well-equipped infrastructure creates a unique platform for high quality research as well as environmental monitoring and assessment.

Duties:

We are seeking a university-trained assistant for sample preparation and chemical analysis of organic environmental pollutants (e.g., pharmaceuticals and pesticides) at trace levels in water using liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The duties also include data processing, statistical evaluation and report writing in English.


Qualifications:

Applicants shall have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental organic chemistry or equivalent. Experience of laboratory work in environmental organic chemistry is required, and experience of chemical analysis of water samples using mass spectrometry is meritorious. Good language skills in English (oral and written) are required. Good knowledge of organic micropollutants and experience in data processing, report writing in English, and statistic evaluation are meritorious. Emphasis is also placed on personal qualities such as being meticulous and having organizational and collaboration skills.
