Offer Description

Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences • Part of something big.

The Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences is an interdisciplinary environment where 10 research areas work to contribute to better medicines and a healthier world. With laboratories in the heart of Uppsala Biomedical Center and Sweden's only Faculty of Pharmacy, we are a vital engine in the development of education and research in the pharmaceutical sciences. More information about the department and its activities is available at www.farmbio.uu.se.

Description of the research area

The postdoc position is placed in Senior Professor Lars-Gunnar Larsson’s research group at Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences, Uppsala University. The research is focused on studies of the function, regulation and targeting of the oncoprotein MYC, which plays and important role in tumor development. This includes studies of the function of MYC in transcription, interactions with cofactors, regulation by the ubiquitin system, targeting MYC with small molecules and the role of MYC in tumorigenesis using mouse models. Lars-Gunnar Larsson’s research group has recently moved from Karolinska Institutet, where the group remains affiliated, see web page: http://ki.se/en/mtc/lars-gunnar-larsson-group

Description of the work

The project addresses the role of MYC in suppression of immune surveillance of tumors.

Immunocompetent mouse models of MYC-induced lung tumors, melanoma and leukemia together with other oncogenes have been established. The task for the successful candidate is to determine if MYC-induced immune suppression in these mouse models can be abrogated by direct or indirect inhibition of MYC and/or factors cooperating with MYC, such as cell cycle kinases. Combinations of anti-MYC and different types of immune therapies are also investigated. These involves studies of interactions between MYC-driven tumor cells and different immune cells and how that affects recruitment, activation and persistence of the immune cells using spatial transcriptomics/proteomics, single cell sequencing and different types of interventions such as by Crispr/Cas9 and immune depletion.
