The Stockholm Resilience Centre (SRC) is an internationally leading center at Stockholm University that works with interdisciplinary research, teaching and collaboration on resilience and sustainable development. SRC is a dynamic organization with many international collaborations. In total, SRC has around 130 employees.

Main responsibilities
Do you want to lead an internationally renowned communication unit that works in close collaboration with our researchers to communicate findings and contribute to science based sustainable and resilient development at global and national levels? We are looking for an exceptionally skilled individual to lead SRC’s dynamic communication team.

The core of SRC work is to advance the scientific understanding of the dynamic interactions of people and nature, to enable a more sustainable and resilient future for all.  The communications team is a support function for the scientific work in the organization. You will engage with SRC's researchers to bring out the best and most exciting science communication in both conventional, and novel and creative ways.

You will lead our work on both external and internal communications. The external communications work includes: national and international media (also social media platforms as well as our own website); coordination of communication work associated with major international events (such as UN summits and conferences); communication advice to researchers; and support for engagement activities that our researchers have with corporations, public authorities, and civil society organizations.

SRC’s internal communications include the development of our annual report, monitoring system, maintenance of the intranet, staff meetings, and some support for research workshops. You will also contribute to developing and fundraising of new dimensions of SRC’s communication and engagement activities. You collaborate closely with the SRC leadership and researchers. 

The position suits someone who is an experienced manager and/or have substantial experience leading different teams, and who can combine both strategic planning, and operational tasks. You will have the direct management responsibility for about five individuals. This responsibility includes salary and development discussions as well as responsibility for occupational safety and health issues within the group.

You will also lead the coordination with the communicators in our independent programmes SwedBio and Global Resilience Partnership, and our close partner organizations the Beijer Institute of Ecological Economics and the Global Economic Dynamics and the Biosphere program that are based at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. You will also be part of the monthly SRC Forum for Managers where you will participate in the development of processes and routines for the overall organization.

Qualification requirements
We are looking for a person with:

  • At least seven years of work experience in the field of communications, with experience from both international and national communication
  • Experienced manager and/or team leader
  • Experience working with science communication and/or academic organizations and the higher education sector
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills

It is meritorious if you have:

  • Experience of work in a similar organisation with international reach, and/or familiarity with international policy issues and multilateral actors relevant to the work of SRC.
  • Knowledge of managing digital content management systems and experience with social media platforms.
  • Excellent Swedish verbal and written communication skills

You also have a good ability to structure and organize the unit's work, and to initiate and drive tasks and ideas forward. You are used to prioritizing and can keep an overview of a complex organization while delivering on concrete tasks.

Terms of employment
This is a full-time, indefinite-term position with a six-month trial period. Salaries at Stockholm University are determined individually; please indicate your requested salary.
