The Department of Medicinal Chemistry at Uppsala University is a strong and international research environment. The Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab) is a collaboration between four universities in Stockholm and Uppsala: Stockholm University, the Karolinska Institute, the Royal Institute of Technology, and Uppsala University. The SciLifeLab is a national centre for large-scale biosciences with a focus on health and environmental research. The centre combines advanced technical know-how and state-of-the-art equipment with a broad knowledge in translational medicine and molecular biosciences.

SciLifeLab Drug Discovery & Development Platform (SciLifeLab DDD) was established in 2014 as a national platform for academic drug discovery. SciLifeLab DDD employs around fourty highly motivated scientist, many with industrial experience of drug discovery. The mission is to support swedish academic researchers in developping drug candidates.

The Department of Medicinal Chemistry at Uppsala University, is now recruiting a preparative organic chemist/ medicinal chemist to a temporary position to be placed at the SciLifeLab DDD, Medicinal Chemistry Lead Identification Facility. The main focus is to work with synthesis of novel compounds in our drug discovery projects.

Duties
Major duty is to perform experimental work. Applicants will primarily be involved in the synthesis, isolation and characterization of bioactive compounds as well as starting materials in projects at the platform for evaluation in assays. The applicant is also expected to be involved in the daily maintenance of laboratory equipment. We are working in projects together with researchers from the DDD and Academia.

Requirements
A PhD in organic or medicinal chemistry or equivalent. Documented expertise of successful work within the area of preparative synthetic chemistry, as documented by publications and/or patents. You must be able to express yourself well in English, in both speech and writing.

Additional qualifications
A broad knowledge in organic chemistry. Fundamental knowledge of ADME and disease biology is desirable. Importantly, you are a highly motivated medicinal chemist with the ability to work well in a fast paced multidisciplinary environment and have a distinct quality- and results-focus.

A general eligibility requirement is that the applicant must possess the personal capabilities necessary to carry out fully the duties of the appointment such as ability to communicate, motivation, collaborative skills and ability to prioritise.

About the employment
