We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive individual to join our cutting-edge Flow Cytometry Core Facility at the Department of Medicine Huddinge (MedH), Karolinska Institutet as a Flow Cytometry Research Specialist. The Flow Cytometry Core Facility offers high quality service and state-of-the-art instrumentation to users at Karolinska Institutet, as well as external academic or commercial investigators. The Department of Medicine, Huddinge (MedH) Flow Cytometry Core Facility is located in the newly established NEO research building on the Flemingsberg Campus, integrated into the Center for Hematology and Regenerative Medicine (HERM) . The Flow Cytometry Core Facility is equipped with state-of-the-art analysers and cells sorters including one BD FACSymphony, one BD LSRFortessa, one Beckman Coulter Cytoflex S, one BD FACS Aria III and one BD FACS ARIA Fusion. Both cell sorters are used for cell sorting up to enhanced BSL 2. In addition to ensuring that the instruments are operating optimally, the facility offers assisted cell sorting, interaction with investigators at a weekly FACS Forum and training sessions for analysis and trouble-shooting. The Flow Cytometry Facility is under the line management of Assistant Professor Petter S. Woll, the Scientific Director who oversees the operation of the facility. The Flow Cytometry Facility also has an excellent Facility Manager with a long-standing experience in advanced flow cytometry.

Duties
The post holder will support the Flow Cytometry Facility in providing assisted flow cytometery analysis and cell sorting, perform day-to-day general laboratory routines, assist users with acute questions/issues and provide administrative lab support such as consumables and reagents restocking and ordering. The Flow Cytometry Facility also offers the possibility for investigators to outsource their FACS experiments to the facility. Interaction with users with a service-minded and friendly manner is required daily. This position offers an exciting opportunity for an individual to work within a dynamic team involving other staff in the Flow Cytometry Facility and all its users, and to develop a career in cytometry.

Entry requirements

  • The ideal candidate must be service-minded, able to interact multiple users at the same time, and deal with frequent user requests, always with a positive and friendly attitude.
  • Established experience in multi-color advanced flow cytometry and in particular independent cell sorting on advanced instruments such as the BD FACS ARIA Fusion. 
  • Previous experience from working in a flow cytometery core facility for longer than 2 years.
  • Previous experience in biosafety is preferred.
  • The candidate must be able to do several tasks at the same time (e.g. operate multiple instruments at the same time)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Very good knowledge of spoken and written English
  • Demonstrate ability to organize, plan and document work in the facility. Emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.
