The Vegetation Ecology lab is seeking a number of temporary summer field assistants (”försöksbiträden”) to participate in periodic field work, near Arvidsjaur and Jokkmokk.  The field work will involve conducting sampling and measurement at forest field sites, such as soil sampling, gas exchange measurements, or vegetation surveys.   Field work periods will last several weeks, and may occur in June and/or July.      


Duties

The work tasks will vary, and the assistant will help with multiple measurement activities, potentially including soil gas exchange measurements, tree inventories, vegetation pinpointing, and soil sampling.  The work will require being outdoors in the forest for the full work day. The job will require overnight stay, and ability to work in a field situation, including occasional rain and biting insects.  Good team working skills is required. 


Qualifications:

Qualified candidates must be enrolled in a University Degree program, or have completed a University Degree program.  Experience and education in a relevant field is required, such as Biology, Ecology, Forestry, or closely related fields.  The person we look for is flexible, can accommodate schedule changes, and long days in the field. It´s a merit if the applicant have completed or is undertaking the SLU masters program ' Forest Ecology and Sustainable Management' because many of the work tasks will relate to the knowledge and experience obtained in the program.  Candidates should attach a diploma and/or university transcripts covering completed years.

Extra Information: Work will occur in the field mostly in the county of Västerbotten and Norrbotten.  Accommodation during field work will be provided


Form of employment:  

Hourly paid temporary employment during the summer. This means that you will be offered work on occasional short-term occasions during this period. Employment opportunities are time-limited with the support of Section 5 of the Employment Protection Act. Being available in this way means that you can say yes or no to every job opportunity you are offered to work on and that a new employment relationship then begins. A job opportunity can last a few hours to several weeks.
