To be a doctoral student means to devote oneself to a research project under supervision of experienced researchers and following an individual study plan. For a doctoral degree, the equivalent of four years of full-time doctoral education is required.
The research group
Our group focuses on circadian rhythms, which are biological phenomenon that describes the body's natural daily cycles. The group investigates how these cycles affect various physiological processes, including metabolism and hormone production. The research group uses mouse models and cell culture systems to study molecular clocks and their effect on circadian rhythm. The goal is to understand how these processes work and how they can be used to treat diseases related to circadian rhythm, such as mental and metabolic disorders.
The doctoral student project and the duties of the doctoral student
The PhD student will perform various animal experiments where the circadian rhythm is disrupted either through external manipulation (diet and light) or genetically by knocking out the molecular clock. RNA sequencing and other omics data will be generated from various tissues over the 24-hour daily cycle. The PhD student's task is to analyze this data and design experiments to study the underlying mechanisms. Finally, the PhD student will design preclinical studies based on any findings made during the project.
